Dubai Shuts Store, Fines AED50K For Drawing Crowd Despite Warning

A department store in Dubai has been shut down and fined with AED50,000 by the Dubai Economy for not following preventive measure and drawing a huge crowd.

“Dubai Economy recently summoned the management of a department store that failed to comply with the precautionary measures against Covid19, most notably physical distancing, during a discount sale,” posted at Dubai Media Office tweet.

Videos and photos were shared in social media and created attention.

“The sale had seen visitors thronging the store, ignoring the risk of physical contact,” it added. “Dubai Economy emphasizes the need for all stores in Dubai to commit to the precautionary measures when launching any promotions or discounts.”

The retail store explained that they did not expect “such a massive crowd” would come. said in an interview with The National.

As seen in the videos, the social distancing protocols were not followed, thus authorities immediately stepped in.
