Find Out Why Muslims Celebrate Hijri New Year


It’s a long weekend, thanks to Hijri New Year by the Muslims.


But do you know why all Muslim people celebrate this event?


The Islamic New Year marks 1,440 this year since the migration of Prophet Mohammad and his companions from Makkah to Madinah, Islam’s holiest cities in Saudi Arabia.


The word Hijri means migration.


The word refers to the migration of Prophet Mohammad more than 14 centuries ago.


The holiday actually falls on September 11 but the local government in the UAE pushed the day off to workers will get a long weekend.


Both the public and private sector celebrate the holiday on September 13.
