PH's Biggest Airline Company Lays Off Over 300 Staff As It Incurs Losses Primarily Due To COVID-19
Some 300 employees of the Philippine's biggest airline company, Philippine Airlines (PAL), have recently been dismissed as the company incurs losses primarily due to the travel bans caused by the coronavirus.
"The streamlining will strengthen the company in the wake of losses sustained in 2019, aggravated by the ongoing travel restrictions and flight suspensions to areas affected by COVID-19," a statement read.
The airline company said that it implemented a voluntary separation initiative for long-serving employees and a retrenchment process.
The employees who were dismissed will receive appropriate separation benefits as well as trip pass privileges.
