UAE Amnesty: Free Airline Tickets For Filipino Illegal Residents

Days after UAE announced that it will give amnesty to some illegal residents, the Philippine Consul General in Dubai stated that their office is ready to assist overstaying and undocumented Filipinos here and the Northern Emirates.

UAE’s new amnesty rule states that those expats who have violated residency rules will have two options: either go home freely or fix their legal status by paying the required fees.

They will be given three months to decide starting August 1.

In a press conference held at the Philippine Consul General premises, Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes admitted that he has been flooded with multiple queries but he is still waiting for the official guidelines from the authorities.

“We cannot give any specific advice yet to our kababayans who are planning to avail of the amnesty but we are sure that many will take advantage of this opportunity to rectify their visa status and legalize their stay in the UAE,” he said at the media briefing.

Cortes revealed that the Philippine Government has allotted a total of Php 1 billion or AED 68.9 million for Filipinos abroad.

Those who will be repatriated first will depend on the clearance from the local authorities.

The last amnesty for illegal residents in the country was in 2013.
