Why these Filipinos in UAE dressed in costumes

Filipino flair takes centrestage at Man of the Philippines-UAE

Thirteen Filipinos wowed dressed in their most creative national costume at the grand finals of the Man of the Philippines-UAE, impressing the crowd with their artistry and ingenuity.

The Filipino male pageant culminated on Friday after a 10-week run in Dubai where finalists were judged for their talent, summer wear and overall grace on stage by a panel of judges led by Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) International 2007 Nadia Lee Cien Shami.

The top titles went to Ian Rowe Giron, Man of the Philippines UAE 2018, and Kevinson Pineza De Ocampo, Man of the Philippines Dubai, who will both represent the Filipino community in the UAE in the Man of the Philippines pageant in Manila next month.

While the men impressed the crowd with their poise and confidence in the formal wear, swimwear and Q&A segments, it was their flair with colourful costumes that drew the biggest attention.

Candidates had worked with their own designers, many of whom are UAE-based Filipinos, to design their creative costumes inspired by Philippine fiestas, culture, tradition and ingenuity. Most of the materials were locally sourced and recycled, with some imported from the Philippines.

Roland James Delgado won the special prize for creative national costume for his elaborate gold-coloured costume inspired by the Santo Nino of Cebu, Philippines.
